We are pleased to announce the successful inaugural Liverpool Microsurgery Ultrasonography Course, held on Saturday 22nd July 2023 by the Plastic, Reconstructive, and Maxillofacial Trauma Surgery Department at Liverpool Hospital. This course was led by Specialist Plastic Surgeon and the Head of Department, Dr Quan Ngo, alongside Consultant Specialist Plastic Surgeon, Dr Chris Ahn, and Jacqui Robinson, Chief Vascular Sonographer of Liverpool Hospital.
The primary objective of the course was to educate fellow plastic surgeons on incorporating ultrasound technology into their surgical practices to enhance patient outcomes. The latest MINDRAY point-of-care ultrasound device was showcased, providing attendees with hands-on experience using cutting-edge equipment.
During the course, surgeons were introduced to the utility of ultrasound imaging in identifying and mapping perforators, which is crucial for successful perforator flap surgery. This interactive learning opportunity allowed participants to gain valuable insights into the intricacies of ultrasound-assisted procedures, promising more effective and precise surgeries.
The collaboration between the experienced faculty and expert presenters demonstrates Liverpool Hospital's commitment to advancing medical knowledge and improving patient care. Dr Quan Ngo, Dr Chris Ahn, and Jacqui Robinson have played a vital role in sharing their expertise, contributing to the advancement of surgical practices not only within Liverpool Hospital but also in the broader medical community.
As attendees leave the course, they take with them a deeper understanding of the benefits of ultrasound-assisted surgery, poised to positively impact patients' lives. Congratulations to the organisers and presenters for orchestrating such a meaningful event, leading the way in advancing the field of plastic surgery and microsurgery through the integration of colour duplex ultrasound technology.
